
Leonardo Damiani
Leonardo Damiani was born in Perugia, where he trained privately as a pianist under M° Gianclaudio Mantovani and M° Frate Alessandro Brustenghi; he subsequently undertook the study of electroacoustic composition at the ‘F. Morlacchi’ Conservatory in the same city, with M° Luigi Ceccarelli, M° Maria Serena Tamburini and M° Alessio Sabella. He graduated with top marks and honours in 2016.
In 2017, he began the academic course of Composition at the Conservatorio ‘G. Verdi’ in Milan with Maestro Gabriele Manca, with whom he will complete both Level I and Level II studies – in 2021 and 2023 respectively -, obtaining top marks on both occasions.
In 2023 he graduated from the Advanced Training Course in Composition at the ‘Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’ in Rome with Maestro Ivan Fedele.
In June 2018, he wrote music for the theatre: Luft & Duft & Co. to a libretto by Pasquale d’Ascola. He realised sound design works, in particular he supervised the electronic audio processing of the film La corda spezzata – docufilm (2019) on the life of baroque composer Alessandro Stradella, directed by Francesco Leprino.
He is winner and finalist in numerous competitions: 2nd place in the competition “SIMM – Nuove musiche per clavicembalo’ in the 2019 edition with the piece for solo harpsichord Attention incapable; finalist in a competition organised by the ‘Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz’ in 2020 with the lied for soprano and piano Schwindel; winner of the 15th ‘National Arts Award’ in the Composition category with the string quartet At a glance:; 1st prize winner at the 4th International Composition Competition “New Music Generation 2022” organised by the “Kazakh National University of Arts” with the piece Ego-Equilibrio for orchestra; Special Prize at the “3rd Ise-Shima International Composition Competition” with the piece for ensemble In asse.
In 2022 he received a diploma of merit from Maestro Salvatore Sciarrino at the ‘Chigiana Summer Academy’ in Siena. Selected for two consecutive years – 2022 and 2023 – at the festival “CROSSROADS, Contemporary Music Festival” organised by “INM, Institute for New Music” of the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, for which he wrote two original pieces that were performed in the University’s Solitär Hall by two ensembles in residence during the entire period of the festival: Descending in drops (2022) for Chromoson Ensemble; Molecular void (2023) for NAMES Ensemble.
