About us
Founded in 2000 the Orchestra dell’Università degli Studi di Milano (Orchestra UNIMI) has distinguished itself over the years both for the peculiarity of its project among the Italian universities and for the musical divulgation.
The artistic work, which until the 2020/21 concert season took place under the musical direction of Alessandro Crudele, has over the years reserved, in addition to the classical symphonic repertoire, a particular attention to contemporary music: the Orchestra has hosted in the programming, among others, artists of the caliber of John Axelrod, Paul Badura-Skoda, Kolja Blacher, Mario Brunello, Enrico Dindo, Ingrid Fliter, Viviane Hagner, Karl Leister, Gerhard Oppitz, Fazil Say, Alessandro Taverna, Milan Turkovic and Lilya Zilberstein, having also the opportunity to perform in prestigious halls such as the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.
In addition, the Orchestra has been invited for years to take part in the MITO SettembreMusica Festival.
Starting from the 2021/22 concert Season, the management of the Orchestra of the University of Milan has passed into the hands of the Foundation UNIMI which, in synergy with the new Deployment of Intellectual Property and Innovation Division of the University, intends to give to the activity of the Orchestra, even after the critical moment of the pandemic, a new impetus both by providing a stage to promote talented young musicians, and by fostering a generational confrontation between musicians.
Starting from the 2022/23 season, Sebastiano Rolli assumed the role of Music Director of the Orchestra.
